“Leading a Generation to Change the World!”

Hult Pize Foundation conducted training to a number of students learning in Addis Ababa University (AAU) focused on creating business ideas which lead them to compete on campus, regional and global levels, at AAU main campus on the 19th of February 2022.

The Hult Prize is an annual, year-long competition that crowd-sources ideas from university level students after challenging them to solve a pressing social issue around topics such as food security, water access, energy, and education.

According to Kirubel Engidawerk, a fourth year pharmacy student at AAU and Oncampus director of Hult Prize, students who compute for the Hult Prize have to pass four steps, such as Oncampus Program, Regional Summit, Global Accelerator and Global Finals to win the competition.

The team which wins the competition will be awarded a One Million dollar a global startup prize as its anchor activity. However, beyond this, what more benefiting to the winners is, the experience and the contact they make with investors, coaches and judges globally,” Kirubel intensified.

Kirubel further stated that the number of students who participated from AAU to the Hult Prize competition this year is the third largest in the world and selectively organized in 36 teams for convenience. His team is also working to share the experience to other Ethiopian universities so that the country will have more representatives ahead, he added.

Kirubel finally thanked Office of the Vice President of Research and Technology Transfer of AAU for helping to organize the training as well as Kazan Group and 251 Communications for being gold sponsors to facilitate the activities as Hult Prize in Ethiopia mainly AAU.

Two trainers experienced in entrepreneurship conducted the training in the way that the students will be able to create business ideas starting from solving problems which are usually familiar in their surroundings.
