7th Annual Technology Business Idea and Startup Innovation Competition

The Office of Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer (ILTT) is organizing the 7th annual innovation competition to host new tenants/incubatees at its Technology Business Incubation Center (AAU-TBIC). The purpose of this innovation competition is to solicit viable technology business ideas, solutions and startups from top innovators of the AAU community.

Who is eligible?

  • Students, Staff members of Addis Ababa University, and alumni from the University (must be at least two years from the date of graduation and is currently unemployed) with a technology business idea or startup to be scaled into a medium- or high-tech company.
  • Projects with at least two members (preferably at least one staff from AAU).
  • An enterprise that is willing to grant AAU at least its share or profit, as necessary, after graduation from the AAU-TBIC and the rate of profit share will be decided by the policy working at that period.
  • Female competitors (projects with female-PI) are highly encouraged.

Application and Selection Procedures:

  1. Interested applicants complete the online application form (Google Form) and submit it to the Office of ILTT within the specified registration period.
  2. Short-listed eligible candidates nominated based on the preliminary selection criteria will take a two-days induction training and prepare a project proposal to be summited for final competition.
  3. Upon completion of the induction training and submission of the final proposal, a panel of judges composed of experts from different fields will review and select the final viable projects to be hosted at the AAU-TBIC based on the oral presentation of the full-fledged proposals prepared by the applicants.
  4. Owner(s) of the eligible projects selected will sign a contract with the Office of ILTT and will be officially hosted at the AAU-TBIC at most for two-years. The ILTT Office will provide incubation and enterprise development services to the hosted projects.

N.B: Applicants registered for the 6th Annual Innovation Competition previously are automatically included and do not need to register again.
